Castle and Downtown
This is for the person visiting Osaka for the first time. You will visit the main sightseeing spots in Osaka. This tour is a 5 hours course.
Places we will visit
- Osaka Castle
- Tsutenkaku
- Dotonbori
The tour begins with a visit to Osaka Castle, originally built by the powerful feudal lord called Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the 16th century. It was one of the biggest and the gorgeous castles those days. The extant castle park is one-quarter the original size, but the big stones in the stone walls remain. Some of them are heavier than the rocks in the Egyptian pyramids, with the most massive stone being 108 tons. The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1931 with the donation of Osaka citizens. The interior is a modern museum, and the area around the castle tower is maintained as a park.
Next on the list is Tsutenkaku, which means a tall building leading to the heavens. The area has the atmosphere of old Osaka in the early Showa period (the 1950s to 1980s). Tsutenkaku was built in 1912 as a symbol of Osaka but burnt in a fire. The current tower was rebuilt in 1956 as a 103-meter-high tower at the request of the citizens.
Lastly, we will visit the Doton-bori area. Doton-bori was the canal excavated by Yasui Doton’s private property in the early 17th century. Five theaters and many restaurants along the canal attracted people. Although those old theaters are gone, the district has still attracted people. You will feel the bustle of the city with flashy signboards of various shapes on the street. If you want to eat Osaka’s specialties, this is the right place to go.
